All Utah Gardners & Builders? Help recycle your unwanted items.?

Pathway Solar

Do solar landscape lights have an on/off switch?
I am talking about the low end pathway lights that you might get from walmart... do they have an on/off switch, or do they ALWAYS come on at night?
you can find some with an on/off switch but a majority of them don't. I think you'll find that the ones with a switch will be just a bit higher in price. All solar lights do have a photo cell though, when the sun sets the lights will turn on the light for as long as the batteries have enough power to run them.
I think it's a shame that more people don't use the better quality hard wired landscape lights. The light out put is so much better and if you notice the color of the LED light dulls and changes the color of what ever it is trying to light (usually only a 1 foot circle around the light fixture). It's more of an illusion of light, you can see the light is on but they don't really light anything.
Well, best of luck

Dome Lights

What fuse controls the dome lights/ cd player on a 95' Jeep Cherokee?
The dome lights don't work not the key ring light as well a the cd player. I know the cd player is a different fuse than the others but if anyome knows the number or any information that could help?? Thank you for your time
Jeremy.
The dome lights and radio both have a common fuse, which is fuse 1 (20A) in the under hood power distribution center.

Decorative Light

What clear hard plastic could be molded into decorative bottles that sparkle in the light as cut crystal does?
I am a craftsperson, and want a set of decorative bottles to hold hygiene products like shampoo, bath gel, mouthwash, etc. on my bathroom vanity. These bottles have to be unbreakable, and I want them to sparkle and be pretty to look at.
Here's a site with all kinds of bottles, jars, and accessories:
http://www.sunburstbottle.com/
Click on the small pictures to get a view of multiple bottles/jars in that category, such as: http://www.sunburstbottle.com/
This site has some unusual plastic bottles. Look at the closeups of #4 and #5 on this page:
http://www.labsafety.com/store/Lab_Supplies/Plasticware_Glassware/Plastic_Bottles/+-330/
Have you thought about using the empty bottles from bottled water? Just a thought.

Garden Solar

What do i need to do to run my garden electrics (pond Pumps & Garden Lighting) from a solar panel?
I run 2 pond pumps and 4 sets of garden lighting through my electricity supply and would like to change this so it runs from solar power panels on top of my garage roof.
Can anyone give me advice on what size panels I need, how many and how i actually install this.
Please help as I would love to cut down my carbon footprint but want to keep my garden looking pretty.
find the total wattage of the pumps, and purchase a solarpanel larger than needed. why would you want to run garden lights during the day? to run at night, would require some deep cycle batteries, and a power converter for 12vdc to 120 voltac.

Step Solar

Now that we detect the first radio signal from beyond solar system, what's the next step?
first of all read this article about it: http://paranormal.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=paranormal&cdn=newsissues&tm=11&f=00&su=p504.1.336.ip_&tt=2&bt=1&bts=1&zu=http%3A//aliencasebook.blogspot.com/2008/08/first-radio-signal-detected-from-beyond.html
a lot of discovery channel documentary's,are about radio signals from another planet or star,so now what? would they investigate very detailed this signals? if yes, where can I read this detailed results?
They have a new radio telescope which they used to pick up the radio source which is in Sag A, the center of our galaxy, this has been known to be a radio source for decades now. It is naturally occurring, not an "artificial" signal. You may wish to check out the SETI site.

Garden Solar

how many volts does a malibu solar garden light produce on a typical day?
i would like to know how many volts a malibu solar garden light or a standard solar garden light produces. below is a link for malibu solar garden light.
http://www.malibulights.com/images/products/LZ1.jpg
(10pts. for best answer)
what is the typical amperage
I'm pretty sure that this is the same light, only shown with a removable top cap:
http://www.malibulights.com/index.php?action=subcategory&did=2&cid=5&sid=13&pid=lz1
http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10051&langId=-1&catalogId=10053&productId=100056021&N=10000003+90401
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=74768-251-LT406L&lpage=none
As it says on the Home Depot site, the light uses 12V and is 4W.
So, that means there's 1/3A going through these guys.
Hope this helps!

Solar Color

what colors should tubes be for a solar water heating system?
Solar energy can be used to heat water for a pool by running water through a series of pipes or tubes. What colour should the pipes be? What other features should this system have to improve its efficiency?
You should create a form of greenhouse situation around your pipes (which should be matte black) so to trap any radiant heat from those pipes. By creating an enclosed atmosphere with the glass, you can contain nearly all heat and thus be extremely efficient when heating your pool water.

Powered Garden

What is the best way to charge solar powered garden lanterns quickly?
I have a set of solar powered garden lanterns I need to use for a play. The man at the store said to leave them in full sun (I'm in England, so that's never going to happen!) for three days before turning them on. However, I need them before that for rehearsals. Is there a way to quickly and artificially charge solar cells? What sort of artificial light works/works best in charging solar cells?
Any form of bright light will do, but sunlight, because it is so bright, works best. The three day initial charge is needed only for the first time, if at all, and after that you can simply recharge them during the day and recharge them at night. Another thing to try would be this: your typical solar garden lantern has two rechargeable AA cells. Try replacing these with alkaline batteries (take note of polarity), and the lanterns should work. These cells can be removed after the show and re-used until exhausted.
