What type of light bulbs to buy for a homemade lighting kit?

I am a poor college student, I can't afford a lighting kit at the moment, so spare the advice about splurging on real equipment!

I bought some hardware clamp lights from home depot that I plan on using to light my subjects. I took plain, household light bulbs out of my sockets and they 1. aren't bright enough and 2. give off a tint, even when I change with the white balance.

What type of bulbs should I purchase? I need something bright, white and cheap!

Good answers above, but before you panic and perhaps so you can do something tonight, try setting a custom white balance. "Tungsten" is better than "AWB," but it can still be off. Check this out:

(I'm sorry if that is not showing up as a link. It looks okay in the "preview," but it's not coming through as a link. Copy and paste the line into your browser.)

Read the commentary. You do not have to run out and buy a Digital White Card, either. Start by using a white piece of paper. A matte photo paper with nothing printed on it is an excellent choice.

What are some solar lights gonna do for me?

I want to do some uplighting and spotlighting some trees and the facade of my house. I would rather avoid the hassle of wiring, but I am concerned about compromising the whole idea if the solars don't get enough sun to light up my life. Could you please suggest some brands that are top of the line in both solar and low voltage types? I would very much appreciate any help you could share.Thanks.

I don't know the name brand, but I got a set of 4 solar lights last year at Walmart for $30 that work great. They throw pretty good light on the walkway but I don't know how well solar spotlights will work.

Give me some clever storage ideas in garden shed and garage ?

Need to store everything away from the floor and easy to reach places.

Use the ceiling:
- I created my own ceiling-mounted storage area, below is a link (1) to a commercially available product.

Use the walls, efficiently:
- Use flip-up wire brackets (2) to hold multiple, like-sized shovels in a minimal amount of wall space.
- Use spring mounted handles (3) holders to hold rakes and brooms, but alternate them (one head-up, one head-down) to usethe space more efficiently

How are shells removed from pumpkin seeds?

On Friday, a coworker of mine returend to the office with a pound of spiced, roasted pumkin seeds. I remember as a child roasting whole seeds, but have never seen pumkin seeds sans the shell. This led me to wonder how the shell is removed; is it a manual process or is there a contraption that can do this. Now I am wondering about sunflower seeds as well. It all just seems like a lot of work to me.

There must be some type of commercial process--I just roast and munch the whole seed!!

If you wore Pathfinder Socks would they lead you up the garden path?

Or keep your feet warm.

Interesting theory, D. What would pop socks make you do?

When buying outdoor solar landscape lights what should I look for?

key considerations:
* luminaire output - BTW, most newer solar lights use LEDs. on average a light comes with 1-3 LEDs.
* solar panel storage capacity - consider how much charge it can hold & can it effectively drive the output of all LEDs in the lights.
* separate solar panels that can be wired to multiple lights. - if a panel can be wired to 2 lights, you may get more 'light time' if you only hook up 1 light to the panel. (this is the trick I use)
* the amount of direct light it needs to charge.

a good detailed explanation is found on the web at: http://chinese-school.netfirms.com/reviews/solar-landscape-lighting.html

What is the best outdoor plants for the Arizona climate?

I have a new home and I want to have the backyard landscaped. What would be the best plants/flowers for this climate? I would like comething with color if possible.

I built a new house in Phoenix and lived there for 5 years. I too wanted a lush colorful yard. There are many things that are stunning:

Bougainvillea
Hibiscus
Gardenias
Oleander
Jacaranda
Lantana

There is a book published by the Sunset Garden company that is specific to southwestern plants. Can't recommend it more highly!

PS. There is the most marvelous citrus tree called a Cocktail Tree. They graft lemon, grapefruit and orange onto rootstock, so one tree produces all three fruits! If memory serves, I bought mine at Tip Top Nursery. You won't regret having one---it is a stunner and SUCH a conversation piece!

Google Search Remote Surveillance Camera Hyperlink?

Hello,

In the past (probably over a year ago), I came across an interesting article that dealt with remote surveillance / video cameras. I believe the discussion was limited to a certain brand/model and all of the links (to monitor/control the camera) had identical link URL's with the exception of an ID (or something of the sort) at the end. No passwords or anything, simply google search for the beginning of the URL string and thousands of these feeds would come up. Many were from around the world, the cameras can be controlled with a panel that appeared on the page. That's about as much as I can remember to describe it.

If anyone knows the original article or the link that it provided, I would much appreciate it.

Thanks!

Hi,

I came across a similar story about Axis IP cameras a while ago. The links to these stories (& the links of the cameras) are below. They may not be the story you read but could be talking about the same thing (see 2nd story, has the links)
