String Fairy

How much energy is my lamp using up?

I have just bought a string of blue lights (like fairy lights) from Habitat.

On the label it says (32x0.06W) 220-240V / 21V, 2 VA, 1.92W, 50HZ.

What I want to know is, how much energy are these lights using up, compared to say, a regular lamp with a 60W bulb? Is it environmentally friendly or economical to power them and, say, to leave them on while I'm out/overnight?

Thanks!

To build on the previous answers and get a little closer to what I think you are asking, take the 1.92 watts, multiply by time (say you leave them on 8 hours overnight) to get 15.36 watt/hours, which you divide by 1,000 to convert to kilowatt/hours, the units your utility bills in. This gives you .015 kilowatt/hours per night or 0.46 kWh for a 30 day month.

A 60W bulb with the same run time would use 14.4 kWh.

At $0.08 per kWh, the 60W bulb would cost you $1.15/month while the string of blue lights would cost about $0.037.

Vapor Light

The wavelength of the blue light given off by a mercury vapor street lamp is 436 nm.?

What is the energy of this light in joules?

Hi,

We use the formula E=hv = hc/gamma

gamma (wavelength) = 436nm = 436x10^-9m = 4.36x10^-7m

E = 6.63x10^-34J x 3x10^8m/sec / 4.36x10^-7m = 4.56x10^-19J

Good luck,

What happens if you shoot a detective on your property?

Just saw this TV show where 2 detectives were looking for their suspect that led them to a home in the middle of the night. The homeowner hearing someone walking through his yard and seeing 2 people in normal everyday clothes with guns walking shot one of them, but as mentioned they were police officers.
So what would happen to the home owner?
Wasn't he technically within his rights since he was defending his home against what perceived to be a serious threat?
To him he saw 2 men with guns roaming around his home.

Since they did not identify themselves as police and were not in uniform, the shooting was justified.

Is it safe to mount a telivision on the wall above a wall mounted heater?

I have a wall mounted heater and I want to mount my television on the wall above it , but I was wondering if this will cause problems with the television. If anyone knows of problems which can arise, I would be grateful to hear, thanks.

check the manufacture instructions for the tv. if not call them. if it is under warranty it could make it invalid.

Solar Color

Why are my LED solar landscape lights glowing blue instead of white?

I just installed solar coach lights for my pathway on Sunday. They are "supposed" to be a "bright white", according to the package. They are glowing mosquito zapper blue. They glowed this color for the last 2 nights. Is it b/c they need more days to charge? They came from Walmart. Please advise!

If they are "bright" this is normal. Since they are new I would say the "White" is actually brilliant blue. You can also look at the bulb (you have to take the base off. If the LED is blue-ish when it is off that is your answer. Mine are blue like you..

You can test this (only at night) by putting some alkaline batteries in to see what happens. It should be brighter but will probably still be blue. Don't ever leave alkaline (or any other non-rechargable battery in your lights during the day as they will explode).

Garden Lights

garden lights?

we have 5 garden lights one near our door and 4 near our pool. 2 days ago i went outside and the light near the door was on but the 4 near the pool were really dim. then i noticed a night later that when they first turn on they work for half an hour and then go really dim. it gets really cold outside could this be doing something or what could be the problem?
hi sorry they are 12volt electric.

Check your pool light bulbs. If they are compact inflourescent bulbs, they tend to dim in cold weather. Your porch light is most likely in a more protcted location.

If so, switch to halogen or LED light bulbs after confirming that your lighting fixtures are compatible.

Rock Spot

How do I remove a small rust spot?

I discovered a very small rust spot on the rock rail of my Toyota FJ Cruiser, I guess it's from a stone contacting with the rail. The rust spot is very small and I was debating what to do. It appears that whatever hit the rail chipped off a small amount of paint and left the rust spot there. How do I repair this or should I not worry about it, like I said the spot is very small, about the size of a BB.

For a tiny, I assume fresh [not old] rust spot - clean it with mild paint thinner to get it squeaky clean [to remove any traces of wax, oily film, etc.] Once dry - a few minutes should do it, apply some rust destroyer type product with a tiny art brush or a toothpick. If the rust destroyer stuff is in a spray can spray a bit in the cap [do this far from the vehicle to avoid accidental over-spray], then dab it on with the tiny brush or toothpick. Let it dry per the products directions. Then, use some touch up paint [make sure you get the exact colour number for your FJ Cruiser] - the type that comes in a small pen like bottle with a tiny brush. Dab it on. If you like the look of it, let it dry. If it is too much of a bump, use an old credit card with a piece of old t shirt material moistened in paint thinner and wrapped tight over an edge of the card then give it one quick gentle wipe to smooth it. You may have to repeat the process several times before it looks just right. If it is down low, I'd forgo the card and t shirt step - if it was eye level - I might do it depending on how big the bump of touch up paint was.
Resist the temptation to spray a small spot with spray touch up - it will look gross!

When it is two weeks dry, clean it carefully and add a tiny dab of clear coat. When that is dry for a month, you can wax as normal.

Do all this in warm, dry weather.

Mount Light

How to mount a light fixture (small) without drilling on wall or ceiling (concrete)?

So I have these small light fixtures, I want to mount it on the wall and ceiling, but how to mount it without drilling? Glue it on? What kind of glue? Or are there any other methods? The requirement is to mount the fixtures and can withstand hot weather, rain (maybe), will not be easily spoiled by the sun, can stay there there for years (20 years will be very good) and also economical.

Go to the caulking isle of your home depot or Lowes, its by paint. Look for a label that says extra strength PL. Its a glue that bonds anything to anything. Its as strong as nails or screws.

If other life exists in the universe, do you think they also believe in the Christian god?

Whether human beings will ever travel in space very far beyond our little bitty solar system is a mystery, but let's say we find a way to cross the unimaginable distances, do you think the life we encounter, if we should meet any, also believes in a Bronze Age god of murdering, illiterate, genocidal desert nomads on tiny Earth? And if they do not, god forbit, what will we do, burn them at the sake like we did reluctant "Indians" in South America? Not wonderfully friendly, eh?

God gave mankind what it needed to survive on this planet and to prepair for what is to come after... I am certain he has provided what is needed for the other seeds he has planted around the universe
