Backyard Flower

how can i get rid of moles/voles in the backyard?
these little varmits have destroyed the backyard! they have ruined the grass..they have eaten the flower bulbs..and worst --
i have all these liitle underground trails with holes for them to pop their heads out and look around. they are driving me and the dogs nuts cause the dogs smell where they were and dig the ground trying to get at them....
Use a product such as Diazinon or similar to kill grubs. Moles eat grubs.
No grubs = No moles
I have also heard that putting carbide(Used in old miners lamps) in the holes will drive them away.
Either way doesn't kill them just sends them into your neighbor's yard.

Light Kit

I bought a lighting kit to make videos but the light is so strong that smoke comes out of it. Is it dangerous?
I bought a lighting kit to make videos but the light is so strong that smoke comes out of it. Is it dangerous? What happens if i leave it on for too long? Will it burn? I tested it 4 times and every time after about 1 minute the smoke started. I just bought it. The light is 1000 Watts. It's a professional kit.
Yikes! You know the old saying, "Where there's smoke, there's fire". I certainly wouldn't leave the room with it on, if I were you.

Panel String

Who knows something about the string theory?
I need some info on the string theory for a paper which i will present in front of a panel. =)
A super string is a model for an elementary particle.
In the Standard Model, quarks, electrons and the like are considered to be pointlike. This gives problems at short distances where for instance the electromagnetic force between two of time becomes infinite.
The basic idea of super strings is that the fundamental constituents of matter are strings of a length of order of 10^35 m which vibrate at specific frequencies. However, the simplest string theories give more problems then they solve and consistent theories requires more then four dimensions.

Solar Lantern

Is it better to recharge batteries in series or in parallel?
I have 2 6-volt rechargeable lantern batteries, and 1 6-volt solar panel.
Would it be better to recharge then in series or in parallel?
I asked this 3 times in the environmental groups and never got a single answer, so maybe one of these "scientifically enlightened" evolutionist can answer. I will just have to make sure I do the opposite of what they say so that I will have it right.
You can charge batteries in either series or parallel - the issue is not just the method of connection but also the voltage you can apply.
Two 6-volt batteries connected in parallel requires 6 volts of charge because each battery "sees" the charger individually. In series, they need 12 volts to charge because the charging current passes through both batteries before completing the circuit.
So you need to recharge from your solar panel either one at a time, or both in parallel.

Tall Led

Anyone use submersible LED lights? Where'd you get yours?
We are doing a tall centerpiece and would love to put one in the bottom of each, but I'm always iffy when it comes to ordering off ebay. If you used them, where'd you get them and how much. Thanks!!
I bought mine from http://www.save-on-crafts.com/floralytes4.html
I'm doing tall centerpieces also and these look great at the bottom!

Yard Stainless

What bullets should I use in my .22 Contender?
I have a 23" stainless match grade barrel with a 1 in 15" twist rate for my Thompson Contender and want to use it for groundhogs up to 200 yards. Anyone have one and know a good bullet? I doubt my rifle will stabilize the 60 grain, but haven't tried it.
I already have a Ruger 77 in .223 that is amazingly accurate, but I bought the .22 Contender as a niche gun.
Try the 40 grainers.

Hybrid Solar

Our class is trying to come up with a way to improve solar, ethanol, Hybrid, etc. powered planes. Any ideas?
My class has an assignment to improve eco-friendly planes and we're running short on ideas...help would be greatly appreciated!
From a practical standpoint only a plane that uses a liquid fuel like ethanol will work. All others will require too much weight such as batteries or will provide too little power like solar.
About all you can do is prove that fact that they really aren't practical. You might have a solar assisted glider. They could work but would have very limited use.

Solar Led

How much solar power do i need to power an led bulb?
It depends on the type of LED you are using (voltage, colour of light, etc.) You should figure on about 0.05W for each LED you want to use, but check the data sheet for the LED first.
Most solar systems have a battery that is trickle charged by the solar panel and this powers the bulb. This means that if a cloud passes the sun your bulb won't dim. Standard solar panels output 5V or 12V and the power depends on the size of the panel and the efficiency of its manufacture.
You should be able to get a solar panel that outputs a few watts cheaply at any hardware store.
